Government sources
- National Coalition for the Homeless: http://www.nchv.org/background.cfm
- Here is a list they have of Washington State organizations that they identify as working with homeless veterans: http://nchv.org/network_search_results.cfm
- Data on how many homeless veterans there are by region is here: http://www.nchv.org/page.cfm?id=81. One of the issues to keep in mind with this data is that it is very difficult to have reliable numbers for homeless populations since they are difficult to count. These numbers appear to be derived from the needs stated by service providers. Click on the number 20 in the list below on this page for more detailed information on the northwest region (there is no listing there for either Bellingham or Whatcom though).
- A more in-depth national report is published by the VA here: http://www.va.gov/HOMELESS/docs/chaleng/chaleng_sixteenth_annual_report.pdf
- The Coalition website also has a resource library: http://www.nchv.org/resource_library.cfm
- If you are interested in some of the debate around the issue in Washington State you might consider checking out the WA State Digital Archive and doing a keyword search there: http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/
