Generally the library does not collect textbooks. Depending on your class, however, it is possible that a book for a class you are taking is available from the library. However, you should keep in mind that these books check out like normal books in our collection do: 6 weeks at a time with the possibility to renew it for another 6 weeks.

You can place hold requests in the library catalog. Search for the book you are looking for. If we have the book click on the title then click on the 'Request Options' button below the title. If you are not logged in, you will be asked to sign in to view request options. After logging in with your universal login, you can place a request for the book to be held at the Circulation Desk on the second level of Haggard Hall for you. A courtesy email will be sent to your Western email address when it is available (you may go into the collections and find the book for checkout yourself as well of course). If we do not have a copy of the book you can also search the Summit catalog to see if there is an available copy from one of our partner libraries. Depending on the book, they may cancel the hold request for school only use.

All that said, most students get their textbooks from the Western Bookstore. Some classes have an option to rent books for the quarter as well.

If you have any other questions about your options for getting books please let us know.
