Because research and writing almost never happen separately, we realized that it really didn’t make any sense to keep the Writing Center and Research Consultation separate! We decided to merge our services. At the same time, we realized that by creating a studio space for people to work in at their own pace, we could form better relationships and make it much easier to ask a question in the moment it arises, instead of having to wait for an appointment or navigate to some secret location in the Library. We chose the word “Studio” to represent this new learning model because we are more like an art studio or makerspace -- a group of people learning from each other and sharing expertise through short interactions, rather than long, isolated appointments.
